Symposium
noun | plural: symposia
1a: A convivial gathering in ancient Greece with music and conversation
1b: A social gathering for free exchange of ideas
2a: A formal meeting where several specialists present short talks on related topics
2b: A collection of opinions on a subject
2c: Discussion
The term evokes the Greek tradition of open, convivial debate, where ideas are exchanged freely across disciplines.
Our goal is to create a space beyond the academic context where current urban challenges can be critically discussed, creatively explored, and collaboratively addressed. The symposium particularly aims to amplify non-established and marginalized voices, using interactive formats to capture a wide range of perspectives.
Since 2022, (re)searching urbanity has organized three-day Symposiums bringing together researchers, artists, and activists. The first, in summer 2022 at the Floating University and Haus der Statistik, welcomed around 300 participants. In summer 2023, the festival returned to the Floating University with approximately 500 participants. The next edition will take place in 2026. Across a total of 70 contributions so far, diverse formats have been used to explore urban topics in creative and critical ways.
The topics are presented through a variety of formats, including exhibitions, performances, interventions, films, workshops, and lectures, creating an open and interactive platform for exchange, reflection, and collective exploration.
